Tom Ward has trained from Whitehouse Stables in Upper Lambourn since receiving his licence in 2019. Before going out on his own, he spent four years assisting Richard Hannon and one year assisting John O’Shea and Godolphin in Australia. Earlier in his career he also worked under Alain de Royer-Dupré and Francis-Henri Graffard in France, Mark Johnston and John Ferguson in Britain, and Kiaran McLaughlin in the USA.
Tom and Alex Ward now run a growing Flat yard with over 40 horses in training. Notable horses in recent seasons have included Woodhay Wonder and Our Golden One, while previous stable stars include Luisa Casati and Roman Mist.
Tom trains from Whitehouse Stables, a modern purpose-built yard in Upper Lambourn. The facility has 45 boxes, made up of two American-style barns and six traditional boxes along the front. It also includes a horse walker, show ring, owner’s room within the trainer’s suite, and five turnout paddocks.
The yard is around a 5 minute walk from the Jockey Club gallops in Lambourn, which offer over 8 miles of turf and 7 miles of all-weather gallops.
Tom Ward trains in Upper Lambourn alongside his wife, Alex, with the aim of providing owners with the full package. Their operation combines Tom’s training experience in Britain, France, the USA and Australia with Alex’s background in bloodstock and breeding, supported by a strong emphasis on owner communication.
