About trainer

Oliver Greenall and Josh Guerriero are joint racehorse trainers based at Stockton Hall Farm near Malpas in Cheshire. Both were successful amateur jockeys before moving into training, bringing practical race-riding experience to an operation that combines National Hunt ambitions with a strong commitment to shared ownership.

Oliver gained experience with Michael Easterby and Sir Mark Prescott, while Josh worked for Philip Hobbs and Victor Dartnall before becoming Dan Skelton’s assistant during his first three years as a trainer. Josh subsequently joined Oliver at Stockton Hall, and the pair formalised their established working partnership through a joint training licence in 2022.

Their complementary roles are an important part of the yard’s approach. Oliver concentrates particularly on owners, communication and racedays, while Josh leads much of the daily training and race planning alongside the wider team. With the yard reporting that approximately 90% of its horses are in joint ownership, dedicated owner-relations and administration support are central to the operation.

Stockton Hall Farm

Stockton Hall Farm provides a self-contained training environment surrounded by Cheshire farmland, woods and streams. The principal gallops are a three-furlong deep-sand loop for conditioning and a four-furlong uphill carpet gallop for stronger work.

Jumping facilities include a two-furlong all-weather schooling strip, a high-sided jumping lane with ten varied obstacles and all-weather loose-schooling areas. These allow the team to work on jumping technique with both inexperienced horses and established campaigners.

The yard also has three five-horse walkers, a lunging ring, solariums and vibrating platforms. More than 100 acres of grassland provide turnout and varied exercise, complemented by hacking through the surrounding countryside. Large, airy stables with low partitions allow horses visual contact, while a dedicated viewing hut gives owners shelter when watching their horses on the gallops.

Philosophy

Oliver and Josh believe that good performance begins with horses feeling comfortable, settled and healthy in their everyday surroundings. Their approach pays close attention to the stable environment, including ventilation, clean bedding, access to forage and opportunities for horses to see and interact with one another. Staff monitor individual horses closely and adjust their surroundings where needed to help them settle and enjoy their routine.

Training makes use of different surfaces and forms of exercise, from steady conditioning on deep sand to uphill work and jumping practice. The aim is to develop fitness and confidence progressively, while turnout and hacking provide variety away from formal gallop work.

Owners are kept closely connected to that process. The team provides regular updates through The Racing Manager, including gallops and schooling footage, entries, declarations, future plans and feedback after racing. Yard visits and telephone conversations are encouraged, helping owners understand their horse’s preparation and feel involved between racedays.
