Horsebox is a digital marketplace designed to allow trainers, syndicates, and racing clubs to list and sell fractional shares in their racehorses directly to the public. We facilitate the buying, selling, and management of racehorse shares, making ownership more accessible and flexible.
By using blockchain technology, Horsebox ensures the security and transparency of all transactions, while offering a streamlined experience for both trainers and buyers. Trainers can sell shares and keep their customers updated through the platform community features, and share owners can access updates and exclusive experiences, depending on the syndicate’s offerings.
Additionally, Horsebox allows users to resell their shares seamlessly in a centralised marketplace, providing liquidity to the fractional racehorse ownership market in ways traditional syndicates cannot.
No, we’ve made the process as simple as possible for you. While Horsebox uses blockchain technology, you don’t need to worry about cryptocurrency. During the payment process, you’ll be able to use your credit/debit card or bank transfer, just like making any online purchase.
Horsebox will automatically convert your payment into a USDC stablecoin to complete the transaction on your behalf. If you prefer, you can also prepay cryptocurrency into your wallet, but that’s entirely optional. We handle the conversion and blockchain aspects for you, so you don’t need any prior experience with crypto!
Yes, every horse listed on Horsebox is a real, physical racehorse. When you purchase shares, you own a fractional stake in an actual racehorse, backed by blockchain technology to ensure secure and verifiable ownership.
To buy shares, simply browse the listings and view the details of each horse. You can purchase directly from the listing or use the “Quick Buy” option from the marketplace tab. If you don’t have enough funds in your digital wallet, when you attempt to buy, you’ll be prompted to purchase the required amount of USDC (a stablecoin) using your credit/debit card or bank transfer. Horsebox automatically handles the blockchain transaction for you, so you don’t need to worry about the technical aspects. Once your purchase is complete, your shares will appear in your digital wallet under “My Stable.”
When it comes to selling, after the trainer or initial seller has sold all their shares, you can re-list your shares directly from your wallet and offer them for sale to other users on the platform.
Yes, you can sell your shares on the Horsebox marketplace once the trainer has sold their initial listing of shares. After the initial shares have been sold, you can list your shares for resale, allowing other buyers to purchase them securely and seamlessly through the platform.
It depends on the trainer or syndicate managing the horse. Typically, there are a few different cost structures to be aware of:
Once you’re in a syndicate with recurring fees, you are obligated to pay them for the term you’ve committed to. If you decide to sell your share, be aware that you are still responsible for the horse’s upkeep until someone purchases your share on the marketplace. If it doesn’t sell immediately, you’ll need to continue paying those fees, so be mindful when committing to a share.
These terms vary by the trainer or syndicate, so it’s essential to review the details carefully. Especially when buying on the secondary marketplace, be mindful of renewal dates and monthly fees to ensure you know what you’re committing to.
There are two ways you might earn through Horsebox:
Horsebox uses advanced security measures to protect your financial transactions and personal information. Blockchain technology ensures that all ownership and transaction records are transparent, secure, and tamper-proof. Additionally, we use encrypted connections to safeguard your data and comply with strict privacy regulations, making sure that your information is safe from unauthorised access.
As a shareholder, you gain access to several exclusive experiences, including:
Trainers benefit from Horsebox in several ways:
If the horse you own shares in wins a race, the prize money is distributed among all shareholders based on the size of their stake. The amount you receive will be proportional to the number of shares you hold in the horse. You’ll also be notified of the win and can enjoy the excitement of seeing your horse succeed, with the added benefit of potential earnings.
Horsebox offers customer support via email and chat to assist with technical issues, transactions, and general inquiries.
Horsebox ensures financial security through the use of blockchain technology, which provides transparent, tamper-proof records of ownership and transactions. Additionally, if a user defaults or is unable to cover their costs, Horsebox handles bad debt resales, where their shares are resold to cover outstanding fees. This system helps protect the financial stability of the platform and ensures that trainers and other users aren’t negatively impacted by unpaid fees.
If you want to sell your ownership share before the end of its term or racing season, you can list it for sale on the Horsebox marketplace. Once listed, other users can purchase your share securely through the platform’s blockchain system. It’s important to note that if there are recurring maintenance fees associated with your share, you are still responsible for paying them until the share is sold. Simply listing the share for sale does not relieve you of this obligation. Once the sale is completed, the ownership (and responsibility for ongoing costs) transfers to the new owner, and any applicable subscriptions or fees will be adjusted accordingly. This ensures a seamless handover while maintaining the financial obligations tied to the horse’s upkeep.
When your horse retires, the outcome depends on what arrangements the trainer or syndicator has in place for the horse. It’s important to check with them beforehand to understand the options available. Typically, there are a few possible scenarios:
It’s crucial to check the terms provided by the trainer or syndicate to ensure that these possibilities and the ownership structure are clear. The exact details of what happens upon retirement will depend on the specific syndicate or trainer and what arrangements they have outlined.
Horsebox partners only with reputable trainers and stables that adhere to strict animal welfare standards. We ensure that all horses listed on our platform are well cared for, regularly monitored, and receive proper training, healthcare, and nutrition. Horse owners can stay updated on their horse’s well-being through our platform, receiving progress reports and updates from trainers. By working with established professionals in the industry, Horsebox helps to maintain the highest standards of care for all horses listed on the platform.
To ensure fair pricing, Horsebox requires horse owners to submit Proof of Purchase/Ownerships when adding horses to the platform, allowing us to verify the prices paid. Additionally, when users sell their shares on the marketplace, guardrails are in place to prevent pricing from straying too far from the horse’s current fair market value. These guardrails are adjusted over time based on factors like performance, demand, and market conditions, ensuring that prices reflect the true value of the horse while maintaining transparency and fairness.
When you purchase a share through Horsebox, you own a fractional share of a real racehorse, represented by a secure digital token (NFT). This share entitles you to a portion of the horse’s potential race winnings, as well as access to the exclusive community surrounding that horse.
It’s important to review the details listed for each horse, as trainers and syndicates provide specific benefits that come with ownership. All horses on the platform come with access to a horse-specific community where you can connect with fellow owners and the trainer.
Most of the trainers we work with also offer prize distribution, ensuring you get your share of winnings. In addition, many trainers offer exclusive experiences such as stable visits, paddock passes, and race-day owner badges—but these perks vary depending on the size and nature of the syndicate. Be sure to explore the horse’s listing for the full range of benefits.
An NFT (Non-Fungible Token) is a unique digital asset stored on the blockchain. At Horsebox, NFTs represent fractional ownership in a real racehorse, giving you a secure and verifiable stake in the horse you invest in.
Blockchain is a secure digital record-keeping system that we use on Horsebox to track and manage racehorse ownership. Many websites list syndicate opportunities or offer shares through contact forms, making the buying process slow and inefficient. With Horsebox, blockchain allows users to purchase ownership shares directly and securely.
Each share in a horse is represented by an NFT (Non-Fungible Token) on the blockchain, meaning your share is securely recorded and can’t be tampered with. This makes the process of buying, selling, or trading ownership shares much more efficient. By using blockchain, we cut out the back- and-forth and give you direct access to the thrill of ownership, all while ensuring transparency and trust in every transaction.
USDC is a type of cryptocurrency called a stablecoin, which is designed to have a stable value. Unlike more volatile cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, USDC is tied to the value of traditional currencies like the US dollar, meaning 1 USDC is always worth 1 USD. On Horsebox, we use USDC to make blockchain transactions easier and more secure. When you buy shares in a racehorse, you can use traditional currencies (GBP, USD, EUR) to purchase the necessary USDC through a simple process. Horsebox then uses this stablecoin to complete the blockchain transaction for you, ensuring that ownership of your racehorse shares is safely recorded and easily tradable.
Sign up on our platform, browse the marketplace, and purchase fractional shares in a racehorse. From there, you can connect with the community, access exclusive events, and track your horse’s performance.
In Horsebox, your NFT shares represent more than just ownership—they are utility and governance tokens that unlock additional benefits tied to your racehorse. The NFT is essentially your digital ticket, granting you the rights and perks the trainer or syndicate offers with the ownership of their horses. These might include:
No, there is no guarantee of making a profit through Horsebox. While you might earn from race winnings or by selling your shares, these outcomes depend on the horse’s performance and market demand. Racehorse ownership through Horsebox is designed as an entertainment experience, and there should be no expectation of financial gain.
Yes, as a shareholder, you may have the opportunity to visit your horse, depending on the specific arrangement with the trainer or stable. These visits can include observing the horse’s training sessions or meeting the horse in person. Access to these experiences can vary depending on the trainer’s preferences and syndicate size. For larger syndicates, access may be offered through lotteries for limited availability events. Your share’s act as the tickets in these lotteries.
Yes, racehorse ownership involves risks. The performance of a horse can be unpredictable, and factors such as injuries, poor performance, or changes in market demand can negatively affect the value of your shares.
Not currently, but it’s something we plan to introduce in the future. Your shares may eventually act as a voting mechanism, allowing shareholders to have a say in certain decisions regarding the horse’s race participation and care. However, the trainer, who acts as the syndicator of the horse, will always be responsible for the final decisions. While this feature isn’t available from the start, it’s a key part of our future development roadmap.
Yes, Horsebox allows you to own fractional shares in multiple horses. You can diversify your ownership across different horses, trainers, and racing categories, all managed easily in your digital wallet on the platform. This gives you the flexibility to engage with various horses and maximise your involvement in the racing world.
Horsebox seamlessly blends digital ownership with real-world horse racing experiences. Through our platform, you can own fractional shares of a real horse, participate in online communities, and stay updated on your horse’s progress digitally.
However, the live experiences—such as stable visits, race-day badges, paddock passes, and VIP hospitality—are made available at the discretion of the trainers or syndicates. Your ownership tokens act as tickets that can unlock these exclusive perks, depending on the syndicate’s offerings. In larger syndicates, your share may even give you a chance to participate in lotteries for access to these limited experiences, ensuring fairness and excitement.
This combination allows you to engage with horse racing both digitally and in person, enhancing your overall experience.
“Bad debt resales” occur when an owner is unable to cover their ongoing costs, such as training or renewal fees, for their horse shares. In these cases, Horsebox steps in to resell the defaulted owner’s shares on the marketplace. The proceeds from the sale are then used to cover the unpaid fees, ensuring that the horse’s expenses are met and that other shareholders or trainers aren’t negatively affected by the owner’s inability to pay. This process helps maintain the financial integrity of the platform.
Horsebox contributes to the sustainability of horse racing by lowering barriers to entry and attracting new fans and owners through fractional ownership. By making racehorse ownership more accessible, Horsebox encourages broader participation in the sport, helping to grow and diversify its fan base.
Additionally, Horsebox’s use of blockchain ensures transparency and trust, which fosters a more stable and financially secure ownership environment. This, in turn, promotes continued investment in horses, trainers, and racing events, ensuring the long-term health and growth of the industry.
Horsebox encourages transparent communication and collaboration between co-owners through its platform’s community features. In the event of a dispute between co-owners regarding decisions, shares, or other matters, Horsebox provides a clear structure for conflict resolution. The trainer, as the syndicator, will generally have the final say in decisions related to the horse’s care and racing schedule. For more serious disputes, Horsebox may offer mediation services to help resolve issues fairly. All ownership details are recorded on the blockchain, ensuring transparency and clarity in ownership stakes, which helps prevent disputes over transactions or share ownership.
In Horsebox, seller royalties refer to a system where the original seller (usually a trainer or syndicator) earns a percentage from any future resales of a horse’s shares on the secondary marketplace. This feature ensures that, even after selling the initial shares, trainers and syndicators continue to benefit financially from subsequent transactions involving the horse.
For example, each time a share is resold on the platform, a small percentage of the resale value would go back to the original seller. This feature adds an ongoing revenue stream for trainers or syndicates. It incentivises them to maintain high-quality horses and ensure that the horse retains or grows in value over time.
Important note: This feature may not be available at launch but is part of Horsebox’s future vision for expanding the financial ecosystem for horse ownership.
If your horse gets injured and can no longer race, several factors will come into play. The trainer or syndicator will have the final say regarding the horse’s future, always prioritising what’s in the best interest of the animal. Depending on the trainer’s or syndicator’s judgment, the horse may be retired from racing or transitioned to breeding, if its pedigree holds value.
If the horse is no longer training, the ongoing maintenance fees may stop, though this is at the discretion of the trainer or syndicator. However, there may still be additional costs, such as veterinary bills, which could be shared among the owners based on the syndicate’s policy. It’s important to note that these decisions will be made by the trainer or syndicator, not Horsebox, as we facilitate the marketplace but do not intervene in the operational management of the horse.
